Comment: Christian Voices “What Would You Do? November 2012

Below is a lovely email we received from John Mewett regarding the recent performances of What Would You Do?.

Thank you, John, for the feedback.  We are always interested in hearing from those that have attended the performances.

This play really set me thinking. I am quite familiar with the parable of the Good Samaritan and I am afraid I took the story at its face value and regarded those that “passed by on the other side” as selfish, ignorant or just plainly unpleasant people. It had not occurred to me that an excuse for their inaction may have been that they were prepossessed with their own problems It reminded me of the day when my Father died and as I drove up to Hassocks from Brighton I noticed that the world appeared to be carrying on as normal even though mine had fallen apart and then it occurred to me that each of us must be living with a little tragedy in our lives whist appearing to carry on as normal.
Full appreciation to Mr. Cearns who played the Priest, such wonderful acting I was convinced until the play started that he was the church’s actual vicar eventually I seemed to recall his face from previous Christian Voices performances.
On the subject of good acting special mention must be made to Mr. Young whose projection and voice was as usual loud and clear. Particular mention must be made to the support band now much strengthened by the addition of 5 string bass and synth drums, these only added to the bands already accomplished performance which is growing with every time I attend.
I particularly enjoyed the little keyboard interlude, wonderfully jazzy, chords and arpeggios very pleasant indeed.

One hour to the next performance…

7:45pm, St Augustine’s Church, Bexhill.
TODAY!
Third performance of “What Would You Do?” is being performed in an hour by Christian Voices.
Of course I’m writing this at 18:40 on. Thursday, 22nd November, 2012. So if you’re reading this after that…
…well you’ve missed it.
But there are still two more performances:

  • Saturday, 24th 3:00pm at St. Martha’s Church, Little Common
  • Sunday, 25th 9:45am at St. Peter’s Community Centre, Bexhill

Alas, I myself am missing tonight’s performance but I wish all our production crew, musicians, singers and actors well.

A worthy cause…

Christian Voices is very proud to be raising money for an extremely worthy cause this time round.
Chestnut Tree House provides palliative care to children with life-limiting illnesses.
But that hardly does credit to the work performed by the staff.

Caring for children (and aiding their families) with disorders such as cancer, muscular dystrophy, cystic fibrosis and the like takes skill and no small amount of warmth, empathy and love.

We hope that you’ll help this excellent facility by contributing to our retiring collections after each performance.

From overnight short breaks to end of life care, Chestnut Tree House is there to help.

But they need more support to reach all the children that need their aide.

One down…

Thanks to all at St. Michael’s, Bexhill for making Christian Voices feel so welcome.
We hope that you enjoyed the play. The next performance is at Bexhill United Reformed Church at 7:45pm, Wednesday 20th November.

Next performance announced

Christian Voices are proud to announce that they are now preparing their next series of performances.
What would you do? is a play by Alan Young (Playwright) and Dave Chamberlin (Songwriter).

When you read the story of The Good Samaritan, it does not say why the Priest, Levite and Samaritan took the same road to Jericho, as the Jewish man who was attacked.
I have come up with three different storylines that explain how this could have happened and then have brought them together in the final Act.

Thus says Alan about this play, based on the famous parable.
Having previously been performed in 2009, Christian Voices are pleased to return to What would you do? Alan has taken time and care to review the script and has rewritten it, so even those who saw the earlier performance will get a lot out of the new shows. Well, we hope so anyway!
A read-through takes place on Monday, 10th September with rehearsals starting later that month.
Currently we are looking at the following performance schedule:

  • Monday, 19th November 2012, St Michael’s Church, 7:45pm
  • Wednesday, 21st November 2012, Bexhill United Reformed Church, 7:45pm
  • Thursday, 22nd November 2012, St Augustine’s Church, 7:45pm
  • Saturday, 24th November 2012, Little Common Methodist Church, 3:00pm
  • Sunday, 25th November 2012, St Peter’s Church, 9:45am
