Here’s another review of the 2016 version of HoG.  Vanessa Wood and John Mewett also saw the original so this is a special comment from some long term Christian Voices groupies! Continue reading

Review: Heart of Gold

It’s always great to get feedback on Christian Voices performances.  Sandy Willard has sent in this review of Heart of Gold.

Dear Alan,

What can I say?! I’ve run out of words to describe how great I think your performances are, and today’s performance is no exception. It’s great that your group is growing in size, especially as it also includes the youngsters, whom I think are brilliant the way they perform. What also greatly appeals to me is that your performances always give me the impression of natural simplicity, but I’m sure when you are rehearsing etc you feel it is anything but simple. Everyone’s diction is so clear, and of course the story you are putting out to us, comes across loud and clear. Put it all to music with specially written words to confirm the action, and we have a perfect performance. Well done to you all and I look forward to your next production.

Best wishes Alan,  Sandy

Well, kind words indeed, Sandy, thank you.

We’re blessed with our writers, performers and backroom crew — young and less young.

If you want to see Heart of Gold you’ve got one more chance — 7:45pm on Wednesday, 13/Apr/2016 at St.Barnabas’ Church, Bexhill.

“An excellent production”

Thanks from Christian Voices to Barry Turnwell, Property Steward at Christchurch Methodist Church for these lovely comments.

Dear Alan,

Just a short note to thank you and all your colleagues for an excellent production last evening at Christchurch. We do enjoy your visits to the church and there were many favourable comments. Please pass on our thanks to all involved. I hope that the rest of the dates go well – and especially at Ninfield on Saturday. I hope that the collections for the charity are well supported and it is a worthwhile cause.

Thank you again to you and all involved – it was a lovely evening. Every blessing to you all, Barry

We certainly enjoyed the visit and performing at Christchurch.

Now, on to 3pm Saturday (09/Apr/2016) and one of our common “haunts” – Ninfield MethodistChurch Hall.

Perhaps Elimelek’s kinsman will marry Ruth and we’ll be left with a disappointed Boaz?  That’d shake the tree!

Gold Rush

Gosh! We’re nearly at the first performance of “Heart of Gold” in 2016!

Rehearsals end this week – aaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrgggggghhhhhh!

HoG-Ruth

Our first performance will be at Sidley Baptist  Church, 7.00pm on Sunday 3rd April, 2016.

Ruth, Boaz and the crew are all waiting to put their story to you.
(You may not know this but Boaz is the Great Grandfather of David, King of Israel – you know, the one with the sling?)

But … if you can’t make this coming Sunday then you have no less than five other chances to catch the Christian Voices play in Bexhill & surrounds.

  • Sunday, 3rd April, 7:00pm, Sidley Baptist Church
  • Monday, 4th April, 7:30pm, St. Martha’s Church, Little Common
  • Tuesday, 5th April, 7:45pm, Christchurch Methodist Church
  • Saturday, 9th April, 3:00pm, Ninfield Methodist Church Hall
  • Sunday, 10th April, 9:45am, St. Peter’s Community Centre, Bexhill
  • Wednesday, 13th April, 7:45pm, St. Barnabus Church, Bexhill

You can download that schedule as a pamphlet from here.  Now you can put it up in your window — 🙂 .

Don’t be afraid of the Gold Rush – join us for “Heart of Gold” at any of our performances and we will make you most welcome!
We are raising funds this time (there is no entry/ticket fee, this is a voluntary collection only) for “The Snowflake Trust“.  The organisation (Reg Charity #1119743) “provides supervised overnight accommodation to homeless people who would otherwise be sleeping rough in Hastings and St Leonards during the extreme winter months.

The Runaway Success

We are delighted to report that our play “The Runaway Slave” raised £528 for the Charity Children with Cancer Fund (#1110644.)

Children with Cancer Fund

Not only that but they have presented us with this lovely certificate to mark our efforts!

All we can say is thank you and please keep up the wonderful and valuable work you do for such deserving cause!
If anyone wants to know more about this cause please visit their website: http://www.childrenwithcancerfund.org.uk/

cor aureos, anno MMXVI

It’s time once again to announce a new performance schedule for Christian Voices.

In April this year (2016) we will be performing a revised version of “Heart of Gold“.

More details on what to expect from this play to follow but as we’ve just had the first read thru’ of the script provided by the our script meister, Alan Young, it seems apt to let you know what we’re up to.

At the moment the plan is to take the play to the venues posted below.

And, no, it isn’t performed in Latin.  Unless, of course, that means more people will attend?

I’m sure our cast are up to the challenge…

  • Sunday, 3rd April, 7:00pm, Sidley Baptist Church
  • Monday, 4th April, 7:30pm, St. Martha’s Church, Little Common
  • Tuesday, 5th April, 7:45pm, Christchurch Methodist Church
  • Saturday, 9th April, 3:00pm, Ninfield Methodist Church Hall
  • Sunday, 10th April, 9:45am, St. Peter’s Community Centre, Bexhill
  • Wednesday, 13th April, 7:45pm, St. Barnabus Church

Poignant and a joy to behold

Let’s see who or what led our Number 1 Christian Voices groupie John Mewett to give “The Runaway Slave” such a wonderful thumbs up…

A warm welcome was given on arrival and the play was introduced. I was pleasantly surprised by the near perfect acoustics in the church.

Every word was clearly heard although it was a shame that the band experienced problems with their pa, but in no way did that distract from the enjoyment of their performance.
I particularly liked the song “A Grown-Ups World” written by Dave Chamberlin – a nice structure.

The play concerned the plight of the runaway slave, Onesimus, who is found hiding in Rome by Epaphras, a friend of Onesimus’ Master, Philemon. Paul, who is now being helped by Onesimus, decides to send him back to Philemon.

The roles played by the young actors of Luke (Jamie King) and Anna (Mille Young) were very poignant and a joy to behold.

For me, a well-directed play by Graham Payne with a very good allocation of cast to role by Alan Young. Nice costumes and a good set, which used the space well in this church.
